- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2018My 8 year old got this for Christmas and absolutely loves it! So far we have made the vanilla ice cream. It was a easy to make and neat to watch the milk mixture actually begin to freeze and turn into ice cream...all without the use of our freezer! My son shared it with his 7 year old brother and they both gave it a “thumbs” up! My kids can’t wait to make the ice cream cones next! This is great for children who enjoy science as the recipe booklet included explains the processes..while the set itself feels like a science experiment! We would definitely recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2019This was a Christmas gift for our 10 yr old. He has already completed multiple of the experiments with very little parental assistance. He LOVED making the ice cream all on his own! One "batch" doesn't make a whole lot, and he felt the flavor wasn't very strong. We just talked about how it could easily be altered to make larger quantities and he could add more flavoring in the future. He has since made it multiple times with other flavor extracts that we have on hand. Some of the beginning experiments in the book were things he had previously learned, but we do a lot of science at home so I wasn't surprised. I was grateful to see that so many accessories are included, and the only things we needed were typical pantry/food items.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2023I ordered this to give my daughter and I a craft to work on together. It’s definitely something, but it doesn’t include all of what you need to get the experiments done (beware of that factor, you’ll get all the tools but you gotta grocery shop on your own!)
This isn’t an issue, I feel like I should’ve known this when purchasing. Also these experiments will take a while and a bit of dedication even from an adult, I found myself confused a couple of times lol.
Lastly, this is a good thing, there are several experiments, it’s not just “here’s how to make ice cream” so you’ll have more than just one session of experimentation with this kit, we still have it after a couple weeks and still haven’t completed all of them.
I wouldn’t rate this perfect since I feel like the product description should definitely let people know more of what they are in for in detail, but the kit itself is amazing if your kid has the patience and interest in science.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2022It was great to see the the kids and the adults get excited over this gift. The family will learn together and then enjoy eating the results of every experiment!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2023Fun product, we have only made the simple ice cream using ice and salt. The direction booklet for the other recipes is overwhelming and hard to find the specific instructions as it is more of a fact book. Hard for small kids to know what to do. Still fun for them
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2019This kit teaches all about how icecream is made, with lots of scientific terms in the included booklet/manual that were actually almost too advanced for my 9 year old, but since the whole point of it is to learn, I don't have a problem with him not understanding right away. Since the kit does focus on icecream, you do have to supply a fair amount of supplies for the various experiments, but it comes it comes with some cool little tools like an icecream scoop, popsicle molds, icecream cups, etc., plus strawberry and vanilla flavourings. All in all, my kids loved it, though the busy mom part of me wished it didn't take quite so much adult help, but my kids sure had fun creating the different types of icecreams and sorbets.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2018We had a lot of fun doing the experiments and making the ice cream with this kit. There was a lot of good science and learning in the directions. My daughter is 7 so some of it was a little advanced for her (the kit does say for ages 8+), but we still learned a lot. We had some trouble trying to make the ice cream cones and bowls, and we did need to convert grams to tablespoons/teaspoons, but it was just more learning. And my kids gave the ice cream 2 thumbs up, so we made more than 1 batch!
